WW1 Victory Medal (Single medal only) awarded to Private JOSEPH BALDWIN of the Royal Army Medical Corps

You are looking at a single Victory Medal awarded to Corporal JOSEPH BALDWIN of the Royal Army Medical Corps.

The medal is inscribed ‘27537 CPL. J. BALDWIN. R.A.M.C.’

Private BALDWIN appears in the War Office Daily List No 5366 as having been wounded, the incident date being the 17th of September 1917, and he was entitled to wear a ‘Wound Stripe’.

Research has been conducted into JOSEPH ROBINSON, but unfortunately, other than the medal records, no other service or pension records can be found to provide more information as to who he is, except the reference within the War Office Daily List mentioned, that provides JOSEPH’S next of kin address as Oswaldtwistle.

Within the available historical records, there is a JOSEPH BALDWIN, the son of JOHN J and ELLEN BALDWIN, who was born at Oswaldtwistle on the 8th of June 1887, appeared in most of the census records at Oswaldtwistle (1911 at Little Harwood nearby), and was living in the town when he died on the 9th of May 1969.....This identification is based upon the mention of Oswaldtwistle as JOSEPH’S next of kin address, so consideration has to be given to the identification being incorrect.
