You are looking at the Africa Service Medal, established by the Union of South Africa on the 23^rd of December 1943, and awarded to members of the South African armed forces in recognition of their service during World War One.

This medal was unique to members of the South African Armed Forces and was awarded in addition to the British star medals, Defence Medal and War Medal 1939-1945, that were usually named to the recipient
