You are looking at a group of four (4x) Second World War medals, 1939-1945 Star, Burma Star, Defence Medal & War Medal 1939-1945, awarded to LAC 1613019 JEFFERY PETER HARRIS of the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, along with his RAF Service and Release Book, birth certificate and a framed photograph of him in uniform, and 2 x medal bars.

Please note - The medals have some marking to the backs where they appear to have been attached for display.

JEFFERY served with the RAF from the 18th of June 1942 to the 6th of November 1946.

He was a ‘Wireless Mechanic (W/MECH)’ by trade and spent most of his war service in India, from the 16th of June 1943 to the 21st of August 1946 according to his service and release record, and he was, quote, “employed in the maintenance and installation of radio equipment in aircraft”. He was a Leading Aircraftsman when he finished.

The qualifying criteria for the award of the Burma Star was service in the Burma campaign area between the 11th of December 1941 and the 2nd of September 1945, and for RAF personnel, it is likely service was in Burma itself, or in Bengal and Assam (Eastern India), the Arakan Coast and the Bay of Bengal area, with RAF bases at Chittagong, Calcutta (Dum Dum), Dinjan, Jorhat, Imphal and Agartala.

JEFFERY was the son of  ERNEST and ELLA HARRIS, and he was born at Loughborough on the 28th of April 1921, and he appears alongside his parents in the 1939 Register that was taken at the start of WW2, at 12 Beeches Road in Loughborough, and with his profession recorded as ‘accountants articled clerk’. From 2011, JEFFERY was living in the Birstall area of Leicester, and he was living in the same town when he died on the 4th of January 2016, at the age of 94 years.
