You are looking at a single WW1 Victory Medal awarded to ANDREW SWAN the 17^th (Service) Battalion of the Royal Scots, or ‘Rosebery’s Bantams’ as they also referred to......ANDREW also served with the 13^th Battalion of the regiment.

The medal is inscribed ‘59584 PTE. A.SWAN. R.SCOTS.’

Andrew suffered a gunshot wound to the lower extremities, further described as a simple flesh contusion or wound, and was admitted for medical treatment on the 16^th of April 1918, with 52^nd Field Ambulance and No 32 Ambulance Train recorded in the associated record.

The 17^th (Service) Battalion were part of the 35^th Division and involved in the German Spring Offensive at the time, and were in the area of Ancre and the Somme front line at the time, and the 52^nd Field Ambulance is believed to have been the medical unit that treated wounded soldiers operating in this area.   

He is listed as wounded in the War Office Daily list number 5583, with the incident date recorded as the 4^th of June 1918, and with his next of kin address provided as Girvan in Scotland.
