You are looking at a British War Medal and Victory Medal awarded to Private 63967 W J PUSEY of the Royal Fusiliers, who later went on to serve in the Labour Corps (service number 619731).

The medals are inscribed ‘63967 PTE. W.J.PUSEY. R.FUS.’

There are a number of WILLIAM J PUSEY’S who can be found in the historical records, some of war service age, but in this case, there is a WM. JOHN PUSEY recorded within the absent voters list at ‘Lent’ in the Parish of Burnham in Buckinghamshire, who has ‘63967 Dr., R.F.A.’ recorded in the entry.

This absent voter record suggests WILLIAM is a driver in the Royal Field Artillery, but this is problematic, because there are two other soldiers with that same service number in the RFA, GEORGE R CORNER and FREDERICK CLARK, the latter KIA whilst serving overseas. The likelihood of there being 2 x WILLIAM JOHN PUSEY’S with exactly the same 5 x digit service number is slim, and the fact that other RFA servicemen have been identified with that same service number makes it likely the entry in the absent voters list is incorrect and should describe WILLIAM as a member of the Royal Fusiliers (R.F.) rather than the Royal Field Artillery (R.F.A.).

Accepting that the entry in the absent voters list is wrong, then the WILLIAM JOHN PUSEY in question was born on the 28^th of June 1897 and he is the son of JOHN and EMMA PUSEY, who were from the Buckinghamshire area.
