You are looking at a General Service Medal (1962) with ‘Northern Ireland’ clasp, awarded to Sapper G C SCOTT of the Royal Engineers.
The medal is inscribed ‘23954576 SPR. G.C.SCOTT RE.’
No official records can be found for the service number 23954576, however, based on what we know about later issue army service numbers, it was issued to this soldier late 1958 or possibly early 1959, so he was already a serving soldier when the Northern Ireland conflict (Operation BANNER) started in August 1969.
