WW1 medal pair - British War Medal & Victory Medal - Private JOHN CAMBRIDGE - King's Liverpool Regiment

You are looking at a British War Medal & Victory Medal pair inscribed ‘108336 PTE. J.R.CAMBRIDGE. L’POOL.R.’.

JOHN RICHARD CAMBRIDGE was born in 1892, and on the 10^th of January 1917. he enlisted into the 18^th Battalion the Hampshire Regiment (Regimental Number 33963), with his home address at the time provided as the Links Hotel in Ashford, Middlesex.

On the 15^th of December 1917 he was transferred to the 30^th Battalion the London Regiment, and on the 24^th of April 1918, he then transferred to the 25^th (Garrison) Battalion the King’s Liverpool Regiment. He was at some point promoted to the rank of lance-corporal.

Following the breakthrough of the Hindenburgh Line in September 1918, the 25^th Battalion of the King's Liverpool Regiment were involved in the final stages of the war. They were in the final advance in Artois that commenced on the 2^nd of October and ended on the 11^th of November when the war ended. And it was during this final advance, on the 2^nd or 5^th of October, that JOHN CAMBRIDGE was wounded in action, having sustained a gunshot wound to the right arm, and he was treated in a number of medical stations over the next two months.
